Wild Mushrooms, Spring 2009. The Morel Season
Post Comments

Wild Mushrooms Spring 2009

It will soon be time to start looking for the wonderful and weird Morels!

These wild mushrooms are almost exclusive to the spring and can start appearing from March through to April/May when the weather warms. Generally they only appear in small areas for a short period and are quite hard to find.

I think they are one of my favourites as they are so excellent to dry and then you can enjoy them all throughout the year. I personally think thay have a lovely flavour (although mild) and unlike some wild mushrooms, (which can go slimey when cooked) these little chaps maintain a wonderful texture.

Here are two pages with more information about the Morel - please reference them so you do not accidentally pick the False Morel which can be deadly:

Have you found any Morels??
You can help others yourself, why not post in the "forager" section and share your revent foraging trip stories: http://www.wildmushroomsonline.co.uk/Recent-Foraging-Trips/

Am I the only one struggling to find Morels this year? Where I live in North Hampshire, the very hard winter we have had seems to have made spring stay in bed!
