wild mushroom finds

I went out foraging with Geoff last weekend and we had a very enjoyable day. With some very unusual finds and the biggest Parasol explosion I have ever seen! Almost as far as the eye could see...

Below are some photos and short video clips from the trip.

We started out in woodlands in a location in the south of the UK. Not much was found initially but I did discover a nice Cep. Geoff also found a Coconut Milkcap - and believe me the REALLY smell of coconut!

We also found a blewit which was nice.

The latter part of our trip took us to a large acreage of open land and I could barely believe my eyes, for as far as we could see, little white blobs were visible, there must have been hundred and hundreds of Parasols. A bigger crop I have yet to see.

Lastly we also found an unusual Fungi that resembles pencil shavings, It is believed to be a Podoscypha multizonata

Here are the photos and videos for you to enjoy:

What a wonderful display! I only collected a few - in fact I only took what I wanted to eat or if plentiful, use for identification at home:

Its not just about the mushrooms, wonderful fauna as well as flora (although it's aruguable that Fungi are more animal than plant life)

Weather Warning: INDIAN SUMMER IS BAD NEWS FOR FUNGI
2011 has been a bit of a patchy season for fungi so far, but the mushrooms often don't really get going in the south of the UK until October anyway.  Unfortunately, the current forecast is for a run of the hottest October days on record and the long-term forecasts, for what they are worth,

One not for the pot The Death Cap
14 January 2011  One not for the pot - The Death Cap  We've had a brief respite from the bitterly cold weather that's been hanging around since the end of October, and I've been pleasantly surprised by the amount of fungi I found when I went out earlier this week.  Plenty of Velve

Its Been The Year Of the Hedgehog
2010 has been a strange year for fungi.  It started with the coldest winter since 1963, which was followed, at least in the south east corner of the UK, by the driest summer in living memory.  This meant an exceptionally poor off-season.  September saw an explosion in fungi and for a
