Today I found one of my favourite edible flowers, Milkmaids or some know it as the Cuckoo flower. They have a really biting mustard flavour with a slight hint of garlic. Definately not for the fainthearted.
Add them to any salad and it transforms the whole thing into something different. I have also spied my first couple of bleach cups these are very strange mushrooms that produce chlorine on their surface I suppose as protection I dont really know. Just drop them into boiling salted water for a few seconds and it washes it completely away and then you have a very tasty and unusual shaped mushroom.
They taste a bit like dumplings so at one dinner party I chopped them up and mixed them into suet dumplings, and served with venison casserole they certainly hit the spot on a cold night. The St Georges mushrooms are coming along nicely
