wildmushroomonline.co.uk Spring Is Late This Year. Where Are All The Morels?
Post Comments

Am I the only one struggling to find Morels this year? Where I live in North Hampshire, the very hard winter we have had seems to have made spring stay in bed! In fact it is not just the fungi that are nowhere to be seen but all the flora seems to be still in very very early spring clothing - certainly not as far advanced an normal for mid April.

Having said that what is "normal" - perhaps this is normal and the last decade has seen very early Springs.... I seem to recall everyone moaning before about the fact the flowers were blooming earlier. Well I am not one of those moaners! I love the awkening of sping from Winter so I hope it comes soon!! The sooner it comes the sooner I can start harvesting the wonderful Morel

Have any of you found anything interesting? post your finds on the left panel of this site.

Having tramped all over the local, and not so local, woods, I found a single handsome morel growing under a shrub in our garden. No photo, as I've eaten the evidence, yum.

I have been out and about but found no fungi at all since February. It is now too dry for any, but somehow I doubt it is going to stay that way for much longer.

I know nothing about mushrooms - would these in the photo be morels. How do I positevely id them? and if I'm correct will they spread if left alone or is there anything I can do to increase their numbers for next year.
Morels??

Yes, those are morels. As for spreading them around....that's what mushrooms do, but they are basically a law unto themselves. You may get loads next year or you may get none, whatever you do this year.

Weather Warning: INDIAN SUMMER IS BAD NEWS FOR FUNGI
2011 has been a bit of a patchy season for fungi so far, but the mushrooms often don't really get going in the south of the UK until October anyway.  Unfortunately, the current forecast is for a run of the hottest October days on record and the long-term forecasts, for what they are worth,

One not for the pot The Death Cap
14 January 2011  One not for the pot - The Death Cap  We've had a brief respite from the bitterly cold weather that's been hanging around since the end of October, and I've been pleasantly surprised by the amount of fungi I found when I went out earlier this week.  Plenty of Velve

Its Been The Year Of the Hedgehog
2010 has been a strange year for fungi.  It started with the coldest winter since 1963, which was followed, at least in the south east corner of the UK, by the driest summer in living memory.  This meant an exceptionally poor off-season.  September saw an explosion in fungi and for a
