wildmushroomonline.co.uk How Long Will The Wild Mushroom Season Last
Post Comments

wild mushrooms

I have had a lot of folks as me how long the season will last for wild mushrooms, well the best rule of thumb is that it will be strong now until the first proper frosts and that will stop most of it.

I have just been out to my local patch (Ludshott Common in Hampshire) and I was pleased to see more fungi there now than 3 weeks ago - this year has been an odd one and with all our rain we seem to be getting better and better foraging so keep hunting!

Today I say plenty of Amythyst Deceivers (the small purple one) and lots of ceps too of various sorts plus also at least 12 other species as well as one or two very toxic ones.

keep foraging folks as we are in the midst of a bumper period by the looks of things! (it has rained here for three days solid)

We live in southern Spain and always like to cook with the freshest, seasonal produce. we have been out walking today and have come across many different varieyies of mushrooms and funghi. We know some must be edible as there were many spanish out with baskets but which are edible and which are not. I have pictures of all the ones we saw today. Please can anybody help?
Kind regards, katie

Make them smaller and turn them into JPGs.

Spring is in the air, what about those morels
Well folks, this weekend was a beautiful one down in the south west where I was, like most places - 2011 was a harsh one for wild mushroom foraging due to the lack of rain and indeed, we are now foretold of a drought in many southern parts for 2012. Still, atleast we have the opportunity for Morels

Weather Warning: INDIAN SUMMER IS BAD NEWS FOR FUNGI
2011 has been a bit of a patchy season for fungi so far, but the mushrooms often don't really get going in the south of the UK until October anyway.  Unfortunately, the current forecast is for a run of the hottest October days on record and the long-term forecasts, for what they are worth,
